In 2020, Acres reached a milestone achievement in the Thompson Nicola, carrying out a monumental 2,200m³ concrete pour for the Thickened Amended Tailings (TAT) Building at New Gold Mine. This ambitious project featured a unique 28-sided symmetrical polygon foundation, spanning over 40 meters in diameter and requiring an impressive 600,000 kg of rebar.
The pour began in the early morning hours of November 27, 2020, in which our team worked with two Kamloops batch plants, using three concrete pumps to achieve a pour rate of 160m³ per hour. Beginning at 5:00 AM and wrapping up 10:30 PM, we successfully poured a total of 2,200m³ over nearly 16 hours, with over 200 trips to site.
This project was particularly noteworthy as it occurred during the early days of the COVID pandemic. Our team navigated the challenges presented by implementing strict safety protocols, ensuring that everyone remained safe while maintaining productivity. Completing such a massive pour with zero incidents is a testament to our commitment to safety and teamwork.
In total, the project involved approximately 5,000m³ of concrete poured across three foundations over just four months. Completed in April 2021, the Thickened and Amended Tailings Building has been a showcase of our team’s ability to undertake complex projects while delivering high-quality service under challenging circumstances.
