Having just marked National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th, we understand that playing an active role in reconciliation and healing goes beyond one designated day.
Acres stands in solidarity with all Indigenous Peoples as work continues towards reconciliation and healing. As part of our Indigenous Engagement Plan, we are committed to learning and taking action as an ally to Indigenous Peoples year-round, which includes cultural awareness training for all employees.
Throughout the month of September, our team was fortunate to take part in several events to raise awareness around the history and lasting impacts of residential schools in Canada, while supporting organizations and events that contribute to reconciliation.
From the annual Music for the People event to the Every Child Matters Hockey Game, our team was committed to supporting these impactful initiatives.
On September 8th, Acres was pleased to volunteer at the 3rd Annual Music for the People event in Kamloops – an event in which the company was proud to sponsor as well. We had the honour of attending and volunteering at the annual concert event that brings together a vibrant mix of Indigenous and non-Indigenous performers, with proceeds going to the support the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
On September 21st, our team was happy to support and volunteer at the Every Child Matters Hockey Game in hosted this year in Kamloops. This 2nd annual family-oriented event brought together residential school survivors, band and community officials, Indigenous and non-Indigenous spectators, and a variety of sporting and television icons to take part in and watch a celebrity-style hockey game.
