Aerated Static Pile Composting System

THE PROJECT

This project included a wide range of activities aimed at preparing and developing the site for full operational capacity. The scope includes initial planning, site preparation, utility installation, and final system testing to ensure the project is completed efficiently and safely. Below is a breakdown of the key phases:

  • Pre-Construction & Planning
    • Submittal approval process covering key documents such as QA/QC plans, health and safety protocols, environmental considerations, shop drawings, material certifications, and traffic management plans.
  • Mobilization & Setup

    • Mobilization and establishment of AEL laydown areas and facilities.
    • Inventory and staging of ECS-supplied equipment to ensure readiness for installation.
  • Site Survey & Ground Preparation

    • Verification of initial survey data, along with an original ground survey.
    • Establishment of erosion control protection measures to prevent site degradation during construction.
    • Survey and location of existing infrastructure.
  • Site Preparation & Earthworks

    • Milling of existing asphalt within the limits of the construction area.
    • Execution of earthworks, including cuts and fills, and onsite grading to prepare the land for subsequent installations.
  • Utility & Infrastructure Installation

    • Installation of a watermain running from the tie-in point to the southwest corner of the aeration pad.
    • Installation of electrical ducting from the scale house road throughout the Fortis Right-of-Way (ROW).
    • Roadworks to complete Phase 1 paving and restoration.
  • Underground Systems & Structural Foundations

    • Installation of underground piping, including drain plenums, leachate collection systems, watermains, and any other below-grade systems related to ECS-supplied equipment.
    • Completion of aeration push wall footings and walls.
    • Backfilling and preparation of the aeration pad, including subgrade and base preparation, as well as insulation installation.
    • Completion of aeration pad concrete works.
    • Construction of biofilter reinforced concrete walls and slabs.
  • Above Ground Systems & Final Installations

    • Assembly of the ECS above-grade aeration system.
    • Final electrical connections to all equipment, ensuring full system functionality.
  • Testing, Commissioning & Final Adjustments

    • Comprehensive testing and commissioning of all systems to ensure operational integrity.
    • Completion of remaining roadworks around the aeration pads and final grading work.
    • Addressing any deficiencies and finalizing the site’s appearance and functionality.
  • Demobilization & Site Cleanup

    • Safe and thorough demobilization, followed by complete site cleanup, ensuring the area is left in pristine condition for future use.
