As part of our commitment to fostering a diverse workforce, we are proud to champion the importance of girls in trades.
Through partnerships, educational programs, and mentorship, we actively encourage young women to pursue careers in the trades. By creating pathways for girls to explore these careers, we hope to break down barriers and inspire confidence in the next generation tradespeople and industry leaders.
Twice a year, Acres gets the opportunity to partake in School District 73‘s Girls Exploring Trades and Technology (GETT) events. This inspiring one-day event takes place at Thompson Rivers University and offers female students a chance to build confidence through hands-on experiences in a variety of trades, all within a supportive and welcoming environment.
Students explore different trades, discover career paths, and learn how to pursue them. They also hear directly from female leaders in trades, gaining insight into their personal journeys and the many possibilities ahead. Acres’ very own HR Advisor, Casey Cameron shared her experiences and insights with students as part of the event’s speaker’s panel.
Acres is also pleased to work closely with Thompson Rivers University’s Women in Trades program. Recently, our Human Resources team met with students from the Women in Trades Exploratory Program, providing mock interviews along with other industry partners. We were pleased to join representatives from BC Infrastructure Benefits (BCIB), Teck Resources, the City of Kamloops, and New Gold’s New Afton Mine.
We are grateful to work alongside other dedicated partners who are committed to inspiring others and playing an active role in furthering opportunities for women in trades.
